Yay Geek Girl Art Show this weekend

io9 wrote a sweet little article about the Geek Girl Art Show I'm in! Wish I could check the show out IRL but it's in Seattle.

Mother of Dragons

I'm super excited to be a part of the upcoming Geek Girl show at Ltd. Art Gallery in Seattle. Hooray for Girl (artist) on Girl (pop culture icon) action! As a geek and a girl, this art show was right up my alley. I decided to draw Daenerys from the Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin (aka Game of Thrones) in Disney style. Sketched it out in Corel Painter, colored it in Adobe Illustrator, and printed out onto acetate to give it an animation cel look. Almost done painting the back of the cel with white acrylic (to make the ink more visible) (a technique I learned about on Mike Mitchell's blog. Gotta frame it and ship it off ASAP! Also making a limited print run of it, in case the original sells immediately (please please please). Thanks goes to my buddy/fellow geek girl/amazing artist Lauren Gregg(who is also in the show) for recommending me to be a part of it. Can't wait to see what the other girls come up with. If you're in Seattle next Saturday May 5th, you should check it ooooouuut!

Hooray for Life Drawing!

Last week, I attended a figure drawing sketch group at the Atlanta Artists Center in Buckhead for the first time. It felt great to draw from a nude model, something I haven't done in years. I was actually a little nervous to be drawing in "public" with "strangers," but once I got there I was fine. (I also had my awesome friend Jennie Lynn with me!) There was a mix of younger folks and older ones, painters and draw-ers, probably about 10 total. I had to get back into the rhythm of drawing with actual analog paper and charcoal (where's my zoom tool and apple-z??) again, but I'm glad I did. I spend so much time working and drawing at home alone in my office, it was nice to be able to get out and be around other artists.

Dowager Countess Violet

If you haven't watched Downton Abbey yet, you're a fool!
Here's a quick drawing of the amazing Maggie Smith as the Dowager Countess.

Clay Morrow

In the last couple weeks, Nate and I devoured the first three seasons of Sons of Anarchy. I love Ron Perlman's odd face!
